What happens when concentrated sulfuric acid is kept open?

  1. It releases toxic fumes to the surronding.An it is also volatile(vapourises).That is why it is called concentrated


  2. Concentrated sulfuric acid has a very high affinity for water. This means it will continue to draw in water from the atmosphere, and get more dilute as time goes by. Also, when absorbing water, the temperature will rise, due to the highly exothermic dissolution of sulfuric acid in water.

  3. sulfuric acid is hygroscopic, meaning it attracts water molecules. The acid will become more dilute over time.

    Also, look up the word volatile.
