  1. Carbon dioxide is an dehydrated acid. When carbon dioxide is added to water it forms carbonic acid according to the equation:

    CO2(aq) + H2O(l)  --> H2CO3(aq)

    Carbonic acid is a weak acid so some of it ionizes to produce Hydrogen ions (hydronium ions in the presence of water)

    H2CO3(aq) + H2O(l) --> HCO3-(aq) + H3O+(aq)

    This is why water exposed to the atmosphere is has a pH of around 5, slightly acidic.

  2. CO2...that's carbon Dioxide, right?  it's like dry-ice and water...when combined, it creates fog (like those fog machines).  Great effect for lazer tag!

  3. the water molecules become hydronium molecules (H3O)
