They spend most of their time staring at their own feet, bright red. Sometimes they will mutter "um..." or "ah.." or make a banal comment about the weather. Unless they are much more confident people, in which case they probably didn't have to wait until meeting someone alone to start chatting to them, and they would probebly know one another quite well by then.
