  2. Vinegar is a solution of acetic acid which, like most organic acids, is a weak acid.

    However, it will react with chalk (calcium carbonate), CaCO3, releasing carbon dioxide.

    To observe the reaction, finely divided chalk is best (ordinary blackboard chalk is is ideal, providing it is not synthetic dustless chalk).
