Do you have to talk to a probation officer and take pee tests? What else do I have to expect?

  1. You don't have to do anything. It just means if you get stopped doing something illegal, they have the right to search you and your house or car too. You won't even have to go to a probation officer once the courts grant you an unsupervised probation. Just get on with your life, and stay away from trouble. That's it.

  2. I was an Arizona PO for about 5 years before moving out of state.  What unsupervised or summary probation means is that you just have to stay out of trouble.  You do not have a probation officer that you have to report to, but there is a probation officer that is monitoring your case.

This probation officer may, call you at some point to check on you, but I wouldn't count on it.  As long as you avoid getting into more trouble you probably will never see your probation officer.  Relax, stay out of trouble and when you have finished half your time, call the probation department assigned to your case and ask to speak to the officer assigned to your case.  Give him or her an update and see if you can get off of probation early.

The only requirement you would have to the Court is to notify the probation department if you move or change your telephone numbers.

  3. I was giving 12 months of unsupervised probation, and I can tell you it's, more or less, the court telling you not to s***w up again for that period of time, or otherwise the charges can be used against you.  If you complete your community service or whatever they assign you and you don't receive any charges during your period of unsupervised probation, the charge is purged from your record.

But, no, you don't have undergo drug testing: that's only for supervised probation.

And, no, the police don't have a right to search your vehicle automatically if you're on unsupervised probation.  The rule of probable cause still applies.  I was pulled over in AZ during that period and they cop wanted to search my car, but I refused and complied.

Bottom line is this: don't get anything more than a modest traffic ticket during that time and you'll be fine.

  4. it means your "free", you dont have to follow up on anything, no UA's, you just gotta keep outta trouble, unsupervised is the way to go, but end up in trouble again, and it will be supervised....Lay Low my friend!
