What happens when you TAKE ACTION for Greenpeace?

So, I get daily emails about what is happening to Earth and the animals and all from Greenpeace. With their stories they always have the "TAKE ACTION" button. You're suppose to sign a petition to go against what the email is about. They ask for infomation like name, state, zip code. I'm afraid to put in my address because I don't know what will happen. So I have 2 questions:

1. Will anything bad happen if I sign the petition like goverment contacts me or something?

2. If I give them my address, will they send home bills asking for donation or send me anything home?
