What happens when you don't cry?

I've seen plenty of things that say crying relieves stress. But what happens if you don't let the tears fall? What if you hold those stress relieving tears back? We live in a society that drills it into our heads to not cry. I mean to an extent anyway so a lot of people feel that crying makes you weak. I don't think it does, i believe its almost a form of expression, I say if you feel the need to shed some tears by all means please do so. But what about those that don't feel its something they are allowed or are secure enough to do? What are the consequences of not crying when you have the urge?

  1. we all have that point where we feel like bursting into a storm of tears, but i understand how what you mean by the fact that society keeps us from crying, but i think everyone needs to let it out at sometime. if you keep them forced in there, it's like you're keeping all this pain, or sadness just bottled up in there. open it up and let it out, so you can actually feel refreshed.

And again, i know it maybe embarassing, but find a place where you can be by yourself. anywhere where you'll be alone and cry or even someone you know you can trust, until you really feel satisfied.

    Hope I helped!!

    Peace!!

  2. the disadvantage is you don't have the benifit that crying gives. you will start to learn how to keep your problems by your self and start thinking that i can do this on my own. people will find hard time understanding you since you hide your emotions. this can result to depression and to anxiety.

  3. I don't cry, I haven't for 13 years, since it was explained to me (at 8 yrs old) that crying in the circumstance that would make a normal person cry clouds your mind and makes you act irrationally, and that made sense to me, so every time I feel like it, I take a step back and analyze the situation, and I live a happy blessed life, but I never really feel the urge to cry any way, anymore

  4. i know i cry alot, sometimes even for no reason.....my mom thinks im weird.

    haha.

but i guess im going through puberty..

    CRYING IS FREEEE,

and i dont think its even POSSIBLE to hold tears back.

    ...i know.

    ive tried.

    xD

  5. It's called repression. And it can build up to a point that it can make you ill. Many of our 'current day ills' are evidence that we stuff way too many feelings. When we don't deal with those feelings they come out in different ways...drug use, alcoholism, fears and phobias, behavioral issues, stress related illness, etc.

  6. It's just the saddest thing when someone feels awful enough to cry then feels even worse  because they feel it makes them pathetic to cry.

I'm not an expert but I'd assume it would be a form of repression.

  7. You're bottling the emotions.  Then when something bad happens and you do cry, you're going to cry harder.
