I got a ticket for an unsafe lane change, while I have my permit. The motorcycle cop changed lanes at the same time I did, and then got me for an unsafe lane change. What happens? Can I get my license still, when I should?

  1. If you can arrange the time, go to court on the appointed day, and plead not guilty.   You will have to appear later for the first day of the "trial".  Be prepared on the day of the trial with photos of the area (on paper or on photo paper) with big  4"  by 6"  photos .   The policeman will probably not show up because the ticket is nowhere near the value of that fine money compared to the value of having that patrolman on the road on that day!

If the policeman does not show up the case will be dismissed.

If an actual trial date is set, the local district attorney office will probably send you a letter of dismissal ( because they do not have enough money to prepare and pursue such a trivial  case). If nothing else you can plead guilty at any point along the way and the judge usually says something like "the fine seems a bit excessive: and names a dollar amount about half of what the expected fine is.

Be careful after you plead not guilty you may be sent out a special door from the courtroom. You may be met in the hall by a man or woman , well dressed, carrying papers. That person, bogus because they do not introduce themselves, will ask you about the ticket. They are not your friends! They are probably lawyers, employed by the district attorney office in your district!  Probably the youngest and newest members of the D. A'S office.  Tell them that the cop was an idiot and the cop did not know what the heck he was talking about! And the cop stopped you because he wanted to put a number on some cute young girl (YOU)!  Then walk on down the hall to the place that they sent you.    The whole process is set up, unfairly, to intimidate you!  I have been through this several times!  Good luck to you.   Next time, do not try to get out of the way of a policeman, unless it is on an emergency call with red lights and/or siren. You have no reason to get yourself in trouble just to be "nice".  s***w'um.
