What happens when you get sentenced if you are going to Federal Prison?

Do you get any say in the prison they send you to - do they try to keep you close to home and how do they decide where you go? How long do you normally spend in County Jail? I hear Federal is better than State, is that so?

  1. You don't get to choose where you go. It will be based on the classification of your offense and your criminal history.

And, no. They don't try and keep you near home. Sometimes to the contrary.

Just remember. Sleep on your back and don't drop the soap.

  2. Pack your soap on a rope and condoms.. :D

Mess up your pretty little face and hope noone fancies you.

  3. I doubt that you will have a choice in where they send you. Also I doubt that you will be close to home. Also Federal is better than State but the difference is that in State you will not have to serve as much time as Federal.I am not sure how long you will have to spend in county jail. But probably not very long. I am speaking this through personal experience. Because I had a family member who served in Federal.

  4. This question is on the UK and Ireland Only site. There must be some quirk of Yahoo which allows this to happen.

We don't have federal and state prisons here. Just 'prisons', some are Open and some are High Security. If you get nicked in the UK then you REALLY don't want to be in High Security.

Convicts don't get a personal say about which prison they are sent to; but their behaviour as a prisoner will determine which type of prison that they spend most of their sentence in.

  5. The accommodation's In Federal facilities are usually a nicer,Jail is Jail, You have no control where you go, If you are in County Jail you are not in Federal custody, You will go to a state Facility. Good Luck

  6. The first thing they take into account is your security risk level and how much time you are going to do. This will determine whether you are put in a minimum, medium or maximum level prison. The second factor is space and where they have open beds.
