So i am going into family planning tomorrow for my first STD test.

I have NEVER had any type of check up like a a pap smear or something before.

I am VERY nervous about a stranger being down there. I am more of a private person.

Will it be extremely awkward??

Will they give me a long "gown" type of thing to wear or do i just simply take off my pants?

  1. When you get a pap-smear they typically test for the two STDs you mentioned as protocol. My first one was quite uncomfortable. They give you a paper vest which you put on with the open portion exposing your b*****s (for your breast exam) and a long paper sheet to cover your lower half. The doctor usually has an assistant who comes in to monitor the exam and provide assistance if needed. You have to scoot towards the end of the table with your feet in stirrups attached to the table and the doctor proceeds with the exam. It helps to relax your vaginal muscles for easier insertion; it's still ackward and I've been getting them annually for years. Just relax and remember the doctor has seen and done this before and it's important to maintain your health.

    Good Luck

  2. You will get completely naked if you are going for a physical because they also do a breast exam, but if you want an STD test you have to tell them unless that's all you are going for. Now with the whole thing, they give you stuff to cover up with like a paper sheet that you lay over your bottom half and something to cover up your top half if it's the complete physical. You lay back and put your feet in stirrups and the doctor will bring a light next to them while they are eye level with your v****a. They will then stick a speculum inside you and open up your cervix and start taking swabs. It's not really painful, but it is uncomfortable. You might also get a finger up the butt. That's the only way they can check for warts if there aren't any present.

  3. Don't worry, just they take a swab(collect discharge with cotton bud) to make a smear. This is painless procedure and nurse will be there for your help.
