I have discover and bought a big item today and accidentally went about $20 over my limit. I just realized it and paid half of the bill to get my spending limit back down and not be in the negative. Will I still get hit with a fee? If so, around how much?

  1. Depends upon your creditworthiness. Sometimes they just raise your credit limit, sometimes they hit you with a penalty charge.

  2. depends you may.

  3. Keep an eye on your interest rate.  Sometimes a card will increase your rate for this, although I haven't seen the account agreement that you signed so I don't know if they can in your particular case, or even if Discover ever does this.

  4. you can go over you limit but banks like it to be back under your limit asap. So, as you have made a payment then you will not be hit with a overlimit fee.

If you call your bank ask them to send you a terms and conditions for using a credit card.

  5. The banks systems so off the balance of your credit card at close of business, so if you went over your limit, as long as you fix it up by the close of business it doesn't matter. You should not recieve any charges.
