What happens when you have a bracket replaced?

The orthodontist assistant broke two of the "wings" on my porcelain bracket and I am having it replaced next week. Should they grind away the old glue before they attach the new bracket? How long does getting one bracket reattached normally take? Thanks!

  1. I don't know exactly what the process is (like if they have to grind the old glue off or not) but when I had one bracket break off, it didn't take hardly any time at all for the replacement to be done. I had an adjustment scheduled, they fixed the bracket at the same time, I don't remember it taking much longer. It should be no problem for you. =)

  2. My ortho does grind off the old glue. So it seems like it depends on the ortho. It could also depend on the type of braces. I am in Damon 3's so that could make a difference. I have only had one come off when I bit a hard cookie. The others he has taken off when he has done adjustments.

Like others have said it does not take long.

  3. I have to get brakets replaced ALL the time, my dentist said that some dentist grind away the old glue which is fine but my dentist never grinds away the old glue which is also fine usually for 1 of my brakets it takes half an hour or 45 minutes ^_^.
