  1. You talk to the call-girl (or boy)

They are the ones that take the calls, get your name and age for the DJ. This only applies if you actually get through, though.

I got through once- Radio Disney. I won a contest and was registered 100 times to meet the Jonas Brothers. Didn't win.

  2. you talk to the show producer first, they give you a line number then if your lucky to get your lined picked they put on a ten second delay so you dont say something you are not supposed to on air, yes you still get charged for your call

  3. i was on local radio once (dream 100) it was to have a go at answering a daily morning competition. they took my details, and phoned me back a few mins b4 going on air. Dont know how other stations do it though,

  4. Many radio stations in the US have toll-free & local numbers. If calling in for a contest use the local #, they connect faster and you will only be charged if they pick your line.  If you are the correct caller, the cost for the phone call will be worth it!

Most of the times that I've called in, they record the call during a song, edit it if needed (make sure you say the station ID correctly, clearly and w/ entusiasm), and then they play it back while I'm on hold waiting to give my contact info.

I know what I'm talking about.  I've won  3 trips, hundreds in cash, a PS2, and event tickets & CDs up the ying yang!

  5. no they mainly ring you back, failing that you can ask them too

    regards x kitti x

  6. Ive never seen a 1-800 # that charges.  Do you mean your own personal phone bill due to minutes used?  yes you'll still get charged.

When you call, it will depend who you talk to depending on if its a live show, syndicate show (like stern used to be) or just taped locally.   Live shows, the board op will answer then connect you to the host.  Syndicates the board op will fill out a sheet if its for a contest or give yo an email to reach them.  Recorded shows the board op will answer, record you, then patch your voice in w/ a pre-recorded seg.  by whatever host is on the air.
