What happens when you receive an award letter for Federal Pell Grant and already have a Full Scholarship?

ROTC already pays for my college fees, except summer. I have a letter yesterday saying I have a Federal Pell Grant of $4,731 total ($2366 fall 1 & $2365 for fall 2, 2008).

I know usually the grants pay towards your school/books/etc. Does anyone know how this will work in my case since ROTC pays for my school?

Does the school keeps it or do they send a check for other expenses?

it varies from school to school. If you have more money than needed, they can send the extra money to you, or they may send it back to whoever sent the money last. The school was notified that you were receiving the Pell Grant When you received the notification, so they may have notified the ROTC that you don't need the full amount. The best thing to do is to contact the school and find out exactly how they will handle it since everything is sent to them and they have the final say in everything. Also, if the ROTC is giving you a scholarship, they probably asked you how much is needed per semester. If I was you, I would check my contract to see if there are any clauses saying if they will only pay for anything not covered by grants, or just automatically send the full payment each semester. You'd be surprised that some companies do actually verify to make sure that they are only paying the amount that you actually need and not more. You really need to contact the school and ROTC to make sure the information is EXACTLY correct instead of guesses from people who had similar situations to yours. Like I said before, it all depends on the way that they scholarship and school are, and every place is different.

As long as your ROTC scholarship is not providing extra money for books and fees, you should get that money.

You can never get more money then the school's published "Cost of Attendance".

The cost of attendance is what the school calculates it costs to attend that school for the year. This figure unually includes tuition, books, fees, room & board, or living expenses. Some school put in things like travel expenses and even a new computer.

For example the college near me has a published cost of attendance of a little over $10,000. The actual costs of tuition, books, and all relevant fees is maximum $3500 a year. so they put in lots more expenses then just school costs.

You will get that money to help you pay for your living expenses and transportation costs, the cost of a computer.... pens, paper, pencils, whatever you need....congratulations!!
