What happens when you reset a router?

I reset my router on my home computer and now i don't have any internet access at all. Is there something i can do manually to get it working again? What do i have to do?

  1. When a router is reset, all of the setting are set to factory default values. Your SSID, WEP, etc are erased.

    To reprogram it, you need to physically connect your computer to it (one end to your computer network port, the other to one of the user ports - usually, there are 4 ) keep the cable from the modem to the router.

    Once you do that, open your browser and type in the following in the address bar:

    192.168.1.1

    or

    192.168.0.1

    (your router MAY use a different address, but D-link and Linksys use these) If this isn't the right address for your router, look for a sticker on the underside of the router and/or the user manual for this info.

    You will be prompted for a user name and password. Usual values are:

    (blank)/admin

    admin/(blank)

    Check the user manual for the exact user name and password. Once you are in, you can change whatever settings you need to change.

    BTW, manufacturers *always* have software and user manuals on their websites. Just use Google.
