  1. Brew City is correct if you're playing eight ball. LAG's nine ball version is correct. Here's the relevant WPA eight ball rule:

    3.3 Break Shot

    h) If the breaker fouls in any manner not listed above, the following player has the option of

        (1) accepting the balls in position, or

        (2) taking cue ball in hand behind the head string.

  2.    its the next shooters turn.if your playing straight pool.you subtract a point.

  3. The other person gets a ball in hand but the cue ball must be placed behind the head string when it is a cue ball scratch off the break.

EDIT:  I was only referring to 8 ball....Lorianne gave the best answer (as always!!)  In 9 ball the cue ball can go anywhere on the table.

  4. U LOSE

  5. The opponent gets ball in hand behind the head string (in the kitchen) and the table is open.  That also applies if balls are pocketed.

  6. It depends on what game you're playing:

If you scratch on the break, you lose your turn. The cue ball goes to your opponent ; ("ball in hand").

If you're playing EIGHT BALL: You lose your shot and the cue balls goes to your opponent. He/ She may place it anywhere BEHIND THE HEAD STRING. NO balls within/behind  the head string are legal to shoot at. The table is open until he/she pockets either a stripe or a solid --whichever shot is called.

If you're playing NINE BALL: and you scratch, it is "ball in hand" to your opponent. He/She may shoot from ANYWHERE ON THE TABLE. Your opponent is required to shoot at the lowest numbered ball on the table ....etc.
