  1. I have always heard it referred to stripping the plastic inner hub that is between the prop and the output shaft. The plastic hub is there to get damaged if the prop hits a rock or tangles in an underwater dock cable. So the plastic hub strips, somewhat saving the prop from damage, and your drive unit is unhurt. Remove the prop, slide in a new plastic thingy and install the prop and your golden.

I worked for a boat rental place located on the water and I had done MANY lake runs because of this (water level was lower than normal).

  2. sounds like it's damaged.  like one of the blades has been damaged.

  3. it comes loose from the hub

  4. boogies rite, it could also be you broke the shear pin, its another protection device. take it to another place and get a second opinion about it, sometimes you come across crooked service places that try to sell you a 400 buck prop when u only need a 2 buck shear pin.

  5. sometimes a spun hub starts out as, you don't get the same MPH you used to at the same RPM.

Then it starts acting just like a slipping clutch in a manual shift car.  it'll go slow but when you give 'er the gas, the motor spins up but the boat slows down (or don't go no faster).

eventually it won't move the boat at all.

if you want to test for a spun hub, paint or scribe a mark across the inner hub and rubber bushing, take the boat out & run up & down the lake, then check your mark.  If it still lines up, your hub is good, and you're experiencing cavitation or ventilation.

Otherwise, take the prop to a good prop shop, they'll press in a new hub & she'll be good as new.  Not too expensive.

  6. The engine revs but the boat won't move>Or slow>

  7. A prop should always be submerged and should always be run at the proper speed so that it grips the water ( if it spins, it cavitates, and doesn't grip the water).   You were not careful in your driving.

Doesn't have to be a huge problem.  You are straining the engine.  Wouldn't hurt unless you did it for 10 minutes.

You can do the same thing quicker if you run the prop out of the water.  It spins.
