  1. Typically if you are from the same household and not an authorized driver on the insurance, you are not covered by the owner's insurance.  If you live elsewhere (is address on your license different from address of owner?) then you might be covered.  If you have no license (or suspended/revoked) the person who gave you permission to use the vehicle could find their license suspended.

You are liable for damages and injuries not covered by that insurance or you own.  For anything not covered you would need to provide your own legal defense and/or money to settle and your license may be suspended until it is settled.  If you cannot or do not pay, they would go after the owner too (unless you stole it).  Actually to save time and money, they would go after both of you at once, if you do not settle promptly.

  2. Basically what he said. Also, I know when I was in a car accident and I wasn't insured, my mom's insurance company made her put me on the insurance so that her vehicle would be covered.

  3. Um, then the owner of the car gets really, really mad.  Both you and the car owner can be held liable for all the damages to both cars, and all people - the insurance won't pay.

So, you can end up having your wages attached for DECADES to pay off that bill.

  4. As long as the vehicle you were driving has insurance. The insurance follows the vehicle not the driver. If you were at fault and you are not a listed driver, then the the vehicle you hit will automatically be covered, but the vehicle you were driving will not. This applies if you were not listed our authorized to use the vehicle, and is grounds for a potential lawsuit by the owner of  vehicle.
