What happens with an overactive thyroid? How do I make it less active? What causes it?

My psychiatrist ordered me to take blood tests, & when the results came back, she said my thyroid levels are a little high.

I'm 25, African American, female, & overweight. I suffer OCD, depression, anxiety, & Tourette's. I take Wellbutrin, Clonidine, & Luvox, & I'm STILL very sluggish & depressed-with no energy whatsoever.

  1. An overactive thyroid should not make you feel sluggish.  I'm guessing depression and/or your other medications may be doing that.

Here is some good information on hyperthyroidism:

You should see an endocrinologist about the thyroid.  There are medications that can control the production of thyroid hormones, and procedures that can be done if the medications don't work.

Take care of yourself, and get this seen to.

  2. There are medications to treat it, are any of yours for an overactive thyroid?  If not you need to talk to the doc again.

  3. Excess Syntroid, T4, can be fatal if not used under the direction of a phyhsician.  Symptoms can incloude,  but aren't limented to hypertensi0on, excessive hear-rate and other very serous effects.

Synthroid, is harldly a benign medication, my son.
