What has CBC done for Canada?

You have to remember or consider that many people in remote areas of the country often have no other radio or TV stations.  You can pick up CBC just about anywhere with just an antenna.

Not all areas can pick up a satelite signal either - I found that recently while living in a northern part of the country.

The people who complain about CBC are the same people who dont care that Tim Hortons, Petro Canada, utility companies and everything Canadian that could be sold has been sold to the USA.  Including the other news stations and media.

Nor do they care that what the USA couldnt buy they filed law suits against and put the companies out of business. Like all the major lumber companies in BC and Alberta.

I am not necessarily anti-American so no need to send me hate mail, I am pro Canada but other than CBC just WHAT is left in Canada that the Americans dont own?

CBC is part of our Cdn heritage, it has always been and still is the voice of the Cdn people.  CBC reaches Cdns all across Canada, and as I said even those in remote areas where it is their contact with their country and the world.

CBC has stayed true to its mandate to carry a certain percentage of Cdn content and as such is a venue for Cdn performers and artists here in their own country so they dont have to head south to develop their careers..

It's given it a voice.

There have been many remarkable artists, writers, programs, contents hailing from CBC.

An example: Stuart McLean and his Vinyl Cafe stories.

That's from CBC radio, of course.

CBC provides awesome Canadian content. Hilarious shows, educational shows, interesting shows, great music-both local and international (and often unknown artists who are just getting started)...

I have wonderful childhood memories of hanging out Saturday mornings in the living room listening to CBC with my whole family!
