What has Condom Etiquette got to do with the Environment?

Every year in the UK about 150 million used condoms are flushed down the loo, clogging water treatment filters and causing overflows on rivers and beaches. Not nice to find them when looking in rock pools!

Latex condoms are biodegradable in landfill so use them and put them in the bin.

So what else has the Condom Etiquette got to do with the Environment?

  2. I didnt know that the flush water went straight to the drinking water plant in the UK.  I might have guessed.

  3. because we dont wana get court with condoms in our bin especially when your 14

  4. yeah but surely the vitamin d contained in the condoms will help the fish have healthy scales ;-)

  5. Using more than a gallon of water to dispose of a condom is silly. On the other hand, if the condoms are making it through your WWTPs, you need a redesign. They should be taken out during primary treatment. I've examined more WWTPs than I like to remember and have never seen any condoms in secondary or tertiary treatment tanks. I suspect that the ones you've found on the beaches came from s*x al fresco. In the area in which I grew up, we called them either Hudson River trout or Long Island whitefish. I suspect that they have "species" names in the UK, as well.
