  1. If you want to make a Maltese cross - don't you poke his eyes out ..... If you weren't after that then wikipedia is great

  2. Hey again.:-)

I want to start with one of the most greatest achievements in the Maltese History & is still remembered & celebrated, here in Malta.

Back in 1565 Malta was ruled by the knights of Malta. In 1565,the Ottoman Empire (Turks) invaded Malta.Malta under the orders of La Vallette, the Granmaster and with the help of the Maltese, who fought bravely, defeated the Turks and sent them back,to Turkey. We defeated the turks, although we had far less men than them (About 10,000 men us,turks 40,000).Preety much a difference,huh?;-)

However,if they won, they would have used my beautiful country to invade the rest of Europe & the disease of Islam would have spread throught Europe quickly. How?

First the turks from Malta (Of course,if they won) would invade Sicily, then Italy, and so on..

-Another Malta's greatest achievements was the George cross given from the british empire, awarded by King George VI of the United Kingdom.(We were under the british Empire at those times).

These are George R.I words :

''To honour her brave people I award the George Cross to the Island Fortress of Malta to bear witness to a heroism and devotion that will long be famous in history''

The most interesting thing is that the George cross was to given only to Malta from all the other countries in all the world that were under the British empire & that it was the highest award it could be given in an empire to only ONE person but the George Cross was given to ALL THE MALTESE people.

It was an honour for the Maltese people & so The George Cross is woven into the Flag of Malta and can be seen wherever the flag is flown.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_...

Lieutenant-General Sir William Dobbie answered to George R.I.:

''By God's help Malta will not weaken but will endure until victory is won''

The citation read by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt when he visited Malta in December 1943, also commemorating the fortitude and strength of the island reads:

"In the name of the USA I salute the Island of Malta, its people and its defenders, who, in the cause of freedom and justice and decency throughout the world, have rendered valorous service far above and beyond the call of duty. Under repeated fire from the skies Malta stood alone and unafraid in the centre of the sea, one tiny, bright flame in the darkness - a beacon of hope in the clearer days when which have come. Malta's bright story of human fortitude and courage will be read by posterity with wonder and gratitude through all the ages. What was done in this island maintains all the highest traditions of gallant men and women who from the beginning of time have lived and died to preserve the civilisation for all mankind.",Franklin D. Roosevelt, 7 December 1943.

    Great Speech :-)

Even when the Germans & italians bombed us without mercy on the Maltese islands,we still had courage, also when we were going to die of starvation because the germans and Italians didn't make any british ships that were supplied with food to enter in our port so that we would sourrunder, cause of starvation, but we didn't give up!No way!

On August 15, 1942, on the feast of Santa Maria, a convoy of Royal and Merchant Navy ships made port  at Valletta's Grand Harbour, after completing one of the more heroic maritime episodes in recent history and that filled us more with courage.

Anyway, the Italians after the WW2 made it clear that the bombs were only aimed to the british part of the fleet who were stationed here in our Port and because Malta used to repair damaged ships from wars in our dockyard. In fact, areas around the port were most affected by the bombs

We had strong ties with italy before the WW2 and before we were ruled by Britain and so,as you can imagine, the Maltese were very angry when the Italians started to attakk us  by the aircrafts (In WW2) but their attakk was 100% directly towards the British not the Maltese,as they had confirmed after the WW2...So Nowadays,we have really strong ties with Italy & Britain (Political and not).

There are many other achievements, but I guess I wrote long enough!Anyway if you need help with Maltese history or anything else,e-mail me!It will be my pleasure to help you out,dear.:-)

PS.Malta was NEVER run by the Spanish which someone mentioned above. And soory for writing it too long.

  3. I recently visited Malta.  They fought in WW2 and lost a lot of people. As someone has already said, it was part of the British Empire and has good relations with the UK today.

I was a good place for us to dock naval ships because of its location.

Recently, a lot of Hollywood movies have been filmed there.

I don't know much else about it, other than it is an interesting and varied history and has been taken over by several empires in the past, eg, spanish, arabs, british etc.

  4. I went there a few years ago. They hav no natural beaches, it's all imported sand. They've also some class churches like the one that a missile came through...you can still see where i came through on the roof but there was no damage elsewhere in the church as it didn't explode! Think it's in Gozo. They also have rare reptiles. There is on average about 31 car crashes there a day and all their cars are old you never see anyone driving around in an 08 mercedes! People are friendly and weather is class!

  5. You want to read upon it's involvement during the second world war, they were awarded the medals for gallantry. If it was not for them and many others, you would not have the freedom you have today.

  7. The people put up a terrific fight against the n***s in WW2, and the island was awarded the George cross. It was part of the British Empire at the time.
