What has Paul Casey got for the PGA championship?
Paul Casey will be using a whole new strategy for the upcoming 92nd PGA championship and this time he will not let Louis Oosthuizen win.
The practice rounds have been executed before the big day which is the 12th of August, 2010. The event carries the purse amount of $7500, 000.
Coming to the real story; Paul Casey said while talking to the media said that, this time he will not take a shot in a bush especially at the 12th hole. What happened at this season’s British open was hilarious and is considered one of the worst flukes. Paul Casey was a shot away from Louis Oosthuizen and chances were that he would have been the other player in the playoff until; Paul Casey took the tee shot and aimed for a birdie. Instead the ball flew right into the gorse and resulted into a double bogey. Apparently there was no way out of it so Casey took a penalty drop which turned out to be a triple bogey 7. However at the end of the round, Paul Casey was seen at the third position in a tie, only 8 strokes behind Louis Oosthuizen.
Losing the British open at the Old course has not de- motivated the player, in fact Paul Casey aims to be the first English man after Nick Faldo to lift the beautiful trophy. As a token for memory, Nick Faldo won six major championships between 1987 and 1995, out of which there were three British Opens and Masters, each. Moreover between 1988 and 1993, Nick Faldo was constantly seen in the top 20s of the Grand Slam event.
According to the analysts, what change can Paul Casey possibly bring in? Reviewing the practice session on Saturday, if Paul would not have missed the putts on the 18th hole, delivered a birdie at the 1st and a par putt at the 2nd hole, a whole different story could have been written. Rest his game is complete and he lacks nothing. If he is compared to the winner Louis Oosthuizen , there would be hardly any difference except for the fact that Louis is good at taking the right decisions and that is what counts at a major.
However, Paul Casey is contented with his performance, which he should be. His shots are good and he carries a sense of balance and control which is the key ingredient to success in times of pressure. Moreover, this control has placed Paul Casey in one of the betting favourites for the 92nd PGA championship.
Despite the horrific finish, Paul Casey's performance at the British Open revealed that he has completely recovered from the rib injury which he met in 2009, that de-tracked his game. After rising to the No. 3 of the official world golf ranking, he damaged a rib muscle only seven days before the Turnberry. The results were that he finished with a tie for the 47th position at the Turnberry.
Since then the 32 year old did not play a full round until the World Match Play Championship took place in October. The results were not much different, as he lost all three rounds.
On the whole, the PGA championship is back for the 92nd time at the Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. The mega event will be a playground for the finest players of the world. According to the experts, a different variety of performance will be seen on the course as few players will be there to defend their titles, few will try to retain their OWGR like Tiger Woods and few will like to have a grand come back like Paul Casey. Although he has five top 10 finishes in this season, but he is in an urge of something better than top3.
