What has been the major impact of the theory of Communism on the world?

The realization that theory and reality are two very different things.  Although it may seem nice to think that everyone would be better off if everyone were equal, it just doesn't play out in the real world.  Why would someone want to become a doctor when he/she makes the same as a bus boy?

It has led to Socialism mostly. It has opened some eyes that a utopia or a perfect world may not always be possible because of human instincts.

Communism has shown us that humans are lazy, and they need motivation to do something, if everyone is paid equal than it is boring and no one will work hard. In addition, people will also get greedy. Capitalism is a more natural way of living, as it satisfies human nature as well as keep things in order.

Communism has shown that even if you think about a great theory on the way government should work, you must consider the human element, and make sure motivations are properly placed so that everyone will benefit.

I think the major impact is that it doesn't work in a greedy, capitalist world.  True Karl Marx Communism theorized that people could share all duties and all rewards.  There would not be a rich and poor class.  Everyone would be equal.

The hippies of the 60's tried in their Communes.  It works until someone get jealous or greedy - "I'm doing more work than you, but you're sharing equally the rewards of our efforts".

The rich want to keep their money, and the power that comes with it.

There is a religious aspect of this also but you get the idea.
