I really enjoyed volunteering at an animal shelter, but I would say my most fulfilling experience was volunteering at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh on the cancer unit. What's yours?

  1. when i was younger i volunteered at an animal shelter.

  2. I did a conversation table between English-speakers and Spanish-speakers.  I really learned a lot about Latinos and their culture and helped other Americans learn this as well.

My favorite story was about a kid who was about 18 years old.  We were talking about going to the doctor, and he said that his hands always bothered him because of his job at the poultry plant.  He seemed like a very smart kid, so I asked him if he did not have to work at the plant, where he would choose to work.  He told him that he wanted to be a lawyer, but he couldn't do that here in the U.S. because of documentation problems.  He said that he thought about going back to his country to be a lawyer, but that if he went back, he wouldn't be able to give any money to his sister to send her to school.  He gave up his happiness for that of his little sister, and I thought that was the best example of true family that I had ever seen.
