  1. Hey.

So when people find out I'm vegan, these are some of the reactions i get...

"WHAT?!?!! Don't you miss all the steak?"

"Ok, so i don't mind vegetarianism, but veganism is a bit crazy"

"Where do you get all your protein from?"

"Whats the point in being vegan its not like its hurting the animals"

    "Vegetarian menace"

    "EAT MEAT"

"Vegetarians are stupid, they lack protein, calcium etc"

    "No wonder your so skinny"

Normally these people i don't know, my friends understand perfectly and respect my decision.

Some people just don't understand me, and get all confused and angry about it.

  2. Once, after I told someone I was a vegetarian, they tried to sneak meat into my sandwich. I caught them, though.

  3. I am not a vegetarian/vegan, but I have a few friends that are, I did tease them mildy at first but I have never insulted them, I think that is pointless and unnecessary. But I would like to know how someone who is a vegetarian/vegan can stay full and not feel fatigued? I will admit I dont know much about it and I would like to know more so I can understand it better.

  4. When I first told my best friend they forced me to eat a chicken wing!! The bones got stuck in my throat and I had to go to the hospital it hurt so much :(((

  5. when my coworkers found out (because one of them asked me) they pretty much attacked me.  my supervisor was out of the office at the time.....they started talking about all of the meats that they love and how by not eating meat i was "going against God because he put them here for us to eat" and just all kinds of rude things.  i can only describe what they did as harassment.....i was to the point of tears.  some of their comments were personal attacks, some were made in an attempt to shock me, etc. etc.  finally my supervisor walked back in from lunch and asked what was going on....one of my coworkers told her that i was a vegetarian and her reply was, "so what? she can eat what she wants...it's none of your business."  THANK GOODNESS for that supervisor.  the person that is actually my boss thinks it's idiotic that i don't eat meat, but my supervisor put everyone in their place that day =).  i just couldn't believe how rude everyone was in a professional setting.....i cried ALL NIGHT after i got home....finally i called my best friend (an omni) who told me that she is proud of me for being a vegetarian, and proud of me, "for being a better person than those jerks."  i <3 her. =)

  6. There was a potluck at work one day and this b*tch I worked with told me to try some meatballs.  I told her I didn't eat meat and she rolled her eyes and very loudly with an attitude said "Why?"  I simply said because I don't want to eat meat.  And she got even louder and very rudeley said "God that's so f**cking stupid."  After that she was always finding ways to put me down for it and also pretending she didn't know I didn't eat meat by offering me meat all the time.  She was 40 something years old, very mature of her:)

  7. People assume ALL the time that I smoke weed, to me that is rude since I live a very drug-free lifestyle. Also they ASSUME I do it for reasons other than the animals, or because it is "in" right now. That bothers me simply because I have been a vegetarian since I was 8 and when you're 8 no one cares about trends. Now that I am vegan I get the "you're not gonna make your kids vegan are you?" they think I will let my children starve or be unhealthy, or that if I am pregnant I am being selfish by staying vegan because my baby will not be healthy. I have been vegan for 6 years and I am perfectly healthy so I think I could do the same for my baby :)

  8. I've been veg for 6 years and vegan for five and I've never had a negative reaction from anyone.

I've run into quite a bit of pathetic trolls on Y!A though. Cowards love anonymity.

  9. My sister yelled at me when I first said i was going vegetarian. My Grandma and Aunt made my favorite kind of cake (carrot) and in the icing, to make it think, they put gelatin in it and didn't tell me. (they knew I didnt eat it) I wouldv'e ate it if I hadn't heard my Grandma walk in and say 'heres the gelatin' but my mom told me. my friends parents were away and her older, meat eating brother was in charge and kept stuff hotdogs in her face.

  10. Someone was tailgating behind me in traffic and threw a hamburger rapper at  my car.   That happened about three years ago. Another time I found ketchup, mustard, and a bun smeared on my front window underneath my vegan sticker on my car.  I filled out a police report on that  incident.  Nothing ever came of it.

The most bizarre thing that's ever been said to me is, " You have no right to reject meat because the bible says you can eat it.  The bible is  the blueprint for everything in your  life". My response was,  " Oh well I can't please everybody", and I kept on eating.  When the person saw I wasn't going to bite on debating with them he left me alone.

    * Note these are rare occurences.  Nothing like this has happened to me in close to  three years.

  11. I've gotten all sorts of rude responses. People have laughed at me and asked me what I eat (as if meat is the only food out there). What's worse, though, is when upon hearing that I'm a vegetarian, they tell me that God put animals here to be eaten. Not only do I hate having my diet and lifestyle criticized, but I also hate being proselytized to. GRRR....

  12. I went vegetarian in 1969; I'm now vegan.

I can honestly say I've never had a rude reaction when anyone found out I was veg*n; in my experience most people don't care what other people eat. There weren't as many vegetarians when I first started, so there was a little good-natured teasing, but nothing I couldn't laugh off.

The only place I've ever found a hostile reaction is here on V&V; even then, those people are hiding anonymously behind their computer screens, and probably don't behave in such a crass way in real life.
