What has happend to Detroit and why?

Detroit has to be America's most ghetto and run down city. What happend to this city? Why did it get so bad? Not only is it so run down but its full of crime. What happend?

Detroit's claim to fame is/was that it's the motor city. The American Automobile industry is in decline, hence Detroit is in decline. The city and state administration has done nothing to combat the decline.
