What has happened to my golf game?

I'm 16 and I won my division in my Junior Club Championship, but ever since then I haven't been playing well at all. All I do is slice the ball now and it's been about 3 weeks since the tournament, I haven't slice the ball for a year now. I really don't know what happened. My friend said I'm turning my waist too early? Does that result in a slice?

  1. Back to basics my friend...back to basics.  All of us that have played golf whether for a few yrs or a few decades seem to have similar problems at various times in our golf lives......the inattention to basics will rear its ugly head and all of a sudden...birdies turn into 8's on the score card......See a teaching pro and get your swing tuned up.....

  2. ok this is an easy fix ready its mechanics you went from using muscle memory to using your brain let it flow set up in ur stance grab ur most comfortable club for me that's the 7iron, now stand there and swing..... Left arm stays straight yada yada yada pivot at the waist ..... keep eye on the ball only turn hips and shoulders then on ur way down swing and swing half speed so you can stop where the ball would usually be placed and stop the club observe how your setup is at the time of arrival to the ball most ppl will let there hands lead the club resulting in a slice....... do not make this mistake you should be even . the club should look like an extension to your arm meaning what ever angle you grab the club at the club should continue that angle in a straight line ........ also a lot of ppl forget to turn the wrist over turn the right wrist over as you follow through and u should see a diff in no time

  3. Something has changed in your mental aspect of the game, that has effected your physical game.  Overconfidence?  Grandeur? or another lesson in humility in this fantastic sport?

Do you think that by winning the JCC, you are better?  perhaps this is someones way to keep your feet on the ground.

Your physical swing has never left you...but, perhaps you left it...

Find yourself...find that game again, and walk with a humble heart, and I guarantee you, you will be a better golfer.

  4. a LOT of things could be the problem, opening up (turning your hips to quickly) probably isn't one of them. The best chances are you aren't squaring your club when you hit it, leaving it open, or your swing is inside out.

  5. Don't worry.

    Relax yourself.

    You will get back.

  6. That's golf, go back to the basics and work on them.  Don't worry about it, your swing will come back and you will be playing as well as ever.

  7. I'm a left hander who used to slice off the tee quite frequently.  If you turn too early then your hands have to compensate for the early waist turn and in most cases they will  not, resulting in the club head being open at impact and a slice.  I also went with a slightly weaker grip, which has helped.

  8. yup. Or check your grip, maybe its over too much, your left hand might be too far to the right.
