We are driving to Maryland from Massachusetts and have to go through New York. We'll be leaving at about 5 so we will be in Nw York at about 8:30-9:00. Which bridge would be less "trafficy" at that time.

Please and Thanks

  1. Yes, Tappan Zee Bridge is mostly OK, except if there was disable vehicle.

George Washington Bridge is also not very bad either, even with little traffic. Just remember, lower level is E-Z Pass Holders only during late night hours.

  2. You mean Tappen Zee Bridge.

Neither bridge is any better than the other.

If you take the Tappen Zee it simply means you will be in NY sooner than if you stay in NJ and use the GWB.

  3. It's not even close :Use the TZB

    Try this:

    NJTPK to exit 10

    Garden State Parkway N

    Over the TZB

    Stay on I-287>to White Plains

    I-684 N to I-84 E

to I-90 E and into Boston or wherever

One of the huge disadvanages of using the GWB at that hour is that it dumps you out on the Cross Bronx Expressway /I-95 and the stretch from the GWB to the Bronx -Westchester county line can be relly slow going in some really intense traffic.

Natives avoid it if at all possible

Get gas at the last service area before you exit the NJTPK

    Safe trip
