  1. That's a huge question.  The UN has different divisions that work on everything from issues of protecting international copyrights to the WHO that has succcessfully irradicated polio.  It seems that the real work goes on in those committees. *Don't listen to people who blindly say the UN hasn't done anything ever.

I didn't know what kind of things you were looking for so I would reccomend taking a look at the UN website (specifically the links for "UN Works" and the publications page, they have some free stuff there too).  If you just want some current stuff they are doing, then really any of the links on the main page will work.

If you already have some info and just need dates, use their search.  Also, the last link is to some stuff they have for teachers...it should be just the bones and easy to get more info on.

  2. The World Health Organization, an agency of the UN, co-ordinated the eradication of smallpox in 1979.  I think this is the most important thing the UN has done.  But other UN agencies, such as the World Food Program and UNICEF, have fed and educated millions of people around the world.

  3. The United Nations is made up of a majority of non-democratic nations.  This fact is its downfall and short-coming.  True democracy can not and will not work when the vast majority is un-democratic.

  6. everyone has missed the major thing...

the universal declaration of human rights; which though not enforceable by the un, it has set the trend worldwide for governments to hold themselves to a higher standard when dealing with their people.

also, the un mediates conflicts with peace keeping missions (currently 9,000 troops, mainly latin american, keeping the peace in haiti)

by means of the international court of justice (ICJ) they settle international legal issues between nations who have accepted their cumpulsory jurisdiction.

food, medical and security aid to the tune of trillions of dollars over the past 60 years.

  7. n o t h i n g except spend all the money and occupy space where they have their hq. in new york and just waste it for nothing......it a big, big waste of taxpayers money.  just look how much all those diplomats and officers of the united nations are getting paid and alll the benefits they are getting and it will make your head blow up.
