I have three bulging discs in my lumbar and have gone through spinal decompression therapy and multiple sessions of physical therapy, but nothing has yet relieved it. Has anyone found something that has stopped the pain and been able to return to a normal life? thanks

PS I'm 25

  1. One has to be careful not to cause the bulge to progress into a herniation but the therapy should be helping.  If there is no improvement then one has to look at what is being done for the problem.  Perhaps what is being done is not correct for this.  I am an advocate of being aggressive with this type of problem by making the muscles stronger and targeting specific areas of weakness that have developed.  Being more specific is going to be impossible for there is not enough information to make any recommendations.  Talk to the therapist about what other techniques might be available to you.  Have them check to see what postural deficits as well as muscular imbalances there might be.  Often correcting those areas lends itself to improvement.  You also want to be on an active stretching program as opposed to a passive one.  Use ice on the area for fifteen to twenty minutes per hour for the pain.  Controlling posture and maintaining a neutral pelvis should allow a return to most activities.  The stronger and more muscularly balanced you are the faster the return.
