James is very annoying and he seems really up himself. Anyway I don't think they have anything against him they just like taking the p**s.

It's a TV program for entertainment!

Off set they probably all go for a beer with each other, so if they snipe at each other, or make derogatory comments on set, it is all  set up  to make the program interesting.

Conversely if they all were best mates on set, it is quiet possible that one of them, or all of them, might not like the others off set!

Nothing. James May is Clarkson's oldest friend as well as a colleague. The running joke is that May loves cars, but drives really slow and is a bit of a nerd for rediculous details and stuff.
