Question:

What have you found to be the best putter?

I actually have a Scotty Cameron Circa '62 Model 3, and it has some rust problem. I now realize that it needed some special care but that's not the issue now. I've found the putter to be too light, and I'm constantly leaving my putts short. Whenever I three-putt, it really pisses me off, especially when I leave them short. What putters have you guys had the most success with? I've been playing all winter, and my short game is slowing me down now that the weather is getting nicer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Lee

  1. CRAZ-E-ONE is tha best!!!

    Shane Bond

  2. It depends on the feel of the person....., but I like Scotty Cameron Newport

  3. I play one called The Heavy Putter. It's a beast. Both the head and shaft are extra heavy, encouraging a smooth, wristless stroke.

That said, you should get down to your local well-stocked pro shop and try out their putters. My local shop has a couple of hundred putters and a indoor green. I tried them all and settled on the Heavy Putter.

  4. you can spend a fortune on putters but if you find one worth $20 and its 2nd hand, it works for you then keep it.

you have to remember, club makers are out to make money, fair enough, so they invent all these new clubs, putters with c**p all over them etc, i think, if you couldn't tell, putters are overrated.

if you get one that works, hold onto it.

mine is just a bronson, with a heavy club head, works a treat, either you can putt or you can't, look at aaron badderly, walks up, checks it out and goes bang, with great results, people spend too much time looking for breaks that arn't there etc.

  5. I used a Ram 300 blade type for years, but it was too light for a consistant roll.    I now have a Taylor Made TPi-24 and love it; it has very little offset which fits my eye well.

  6. if you are having trouble getting to the hole i would suggest a mallet putter and a bigger grip. if you want to go hardcore just go out and buy a heavy putter. if you cant get it to the hole with a 2 pound putter theres something wrong with you lol.

  7. I have a Rife 2BAR and an Odessey White Hot blade.  Close to the hole they are both great but the Rife is better at the longer puts.  The Rife also comes with adjustable weights.  A lot a players, especially on the Champions Tour, are using them.

  8. Tour Edge St. Charles.

What's best for you? That's what matters.

  9. I alternate between a 1963 Ben Sayers Mallet that I paid about $40 for new, and a Cameron Newport Studio that I paid $275 for.  If you can't get it to the hole, hit it harder!!  Or put some lead tape on the putter to make it heavier.  You have one of the best putters ever made - like I always say - it ain't the bows and arrows.

  10. Yea sorry to say this but your putter sucks. Just get an odyssey and hopefully you putt better unless you just absolutely suck, which is probably the case.

  11. I have an old Ping Anser II, and last year I switched to an Odyssey 2 ball putter, which is great for long puts, but not from 6 feet in.  I was carrying both putters for a while (I left out my gap wedge).  I came to conclusion this is dumb, so I now just carry the Ping.

You might try adding some lead tape to the back of your putter if you are leaving putts short.  You can buy the lead tape from your pro shop.  you can remove it easily if you don't like it, and it's cheaper than a new putter.

  12. I've got a Scotty Newport 2 that I really like. So much so that I'd say it's the best putter I've ever had. Too bad your case went down the drain.

  13. Putters are really all about feel.  Everyone of them is different to everyone.  Try several of them and find the one that works best for YOU.

  14. The Ping Anser style is a classic putter that has been copied many times by almost ever putter manufacturer.  However that doesn't mean that it's right for you.  Do some shopping around and try as many putters as you can out.  When I bought my last putter, it took me almost a month.  I went to every sporting goods store and pro shop in my area and tested putters for hours at a time.

I'm not going to tell you what I chose, because what was right for me may not be right for you.  However I will tell you, that when I finally decided what I like I had it fitted to me by a professional.
