  1. Good points in the first answer, but keep in mind that EKG is insensitive. Most of the heart attacks I treat don't show the heart attack on the initial EKG, for instance, and left ventricular hypertrophy has to be fairly advanced to show reliably. Even simple rhythm disturbances may not be seen simply because they may not be occuring at the exact time of the tracing.
