1. the only thing that can save the world, as you put it, is a reduction in the number of the most destructive animals on the planet, humans. The world will continue to warm, as it has since the last ice-age, and there is nothing we will be able to do to stop it. Unfortunately the rise in the number of humans is causing the destruction of the natural planet as more and more homes are needed, we in the UK are now being invaded by more and more people from countries with more land per head of population and in time will become a concrete jungle. Time for the Chinese solution, one child per family, and also a stop to immigration with all immigrants who just arrive without visas (including those from Europe) being just sent back.

  2. All paper products have to be manufactured even if being made from recycled materials. This includes shipping those materials halfway round the globe. The paper recycling process also involves hundreds of thousands of gallons of water, most of which is toxic by the end of the process. Your own washing up water if can be used on your garden after use. Using a biodegradable washing up liquid means no harm to your plants either. Stick with the ceramics but try to monitor how much water you use in the process too.

  3. water is filtrated and re-used , so you re doing recycling .

  4. Paper plates are often recycled these days so you must check the wrapper.

Saving water is very important which is why gutters on the house are important to be kept maintained. I say this because we quite often do the main washing up in saved rainwater, and then just rinsing the plates etc with tap water.

It rained here last night. I have 12 metres of guttering on two sides of the house. These are linked to 4 water butts each of wich holds 1000 litres (approx 300 gallons of water). I use this for the gardening, car wash, soaking clothes, the washing up etc. The saving on my water bill is considerable.

    Interesting question.

  5. The Earth does not need saving, it isn't in any danger. It has been through many much more extreme environmental changes than anything the gloom and doom merchants have predicted, and is still doing OK.

The main danger to the health of our environment is the exponential growth of the human population throughout the 20th century.

    World population

    1800 - 1.0Bn

    1900 - 1.5Bn

    1960 - 3.0Bn

    2000 - 6.0Bn

    2006 - 6.7Bn

Providing for all these people, and at the same time reducing our effect on the environment simply doesn't make sense

  6. do the dishes

    A bit more effort but

    cheaper in the end

    and harvest water ,

    from the rain

  7. Glass plates obviously....either way yer have to use water to wash them. Anyway, dont worry about it...the world was already screwed when we got here so it aint our fault, I blame the parents

  8. i would say paper plates-there are a lot more trees in the world than water. i know it still wastes trees but it is probably better.

  9. neither one 'saves' the earth both are using resources that require energy to make them safe and clean for us to use

but i can see the point you're trying to work out

if i had to choose i would say the paper plates because the energy needed to recycle produce is much less than making it from scratch and recycling is getting more and more important and utilised

also many of the trees used to make paper are from a renewable source so thats helping the environment aswell

  10. i'd say using glass, most water is reused and filtrated. most people don't recycle paper like they should...

  11. wow, you are too paranoid. some answerers are right, use glass plates. the government has now treatment facilities to clean water and to be redistributed again.

    EDIT

Snodders, are you suggesting in annihilating most of the human race just to heal this planet? i know humans have done a great part in killing this planet but we also need every human strength that can help to save the environment. we have no time to blame each other, we must unite and save the environment! ! !
