  1. I have heard that Rhodiola is a good herb for depression.  But please be sure to check with a pharmacist before taking this to ask about drug interactions.

  2. saint jhns wart from health shops

  3. a caveat first. if youve got the blues, well thats not unusual .we all get it from time to time. except the high achievers who think that empathy is an exclusively hippie term.  in the meantime, hunt the roadsides for borage.  likes sandy soil, grows better in the east than the west. well in scotland anyway. mince or process the whole plant andsqueeze the juice out. drink about an eggcupful per diem, either alone or mixed with wine. it supports the adrenal glands[on your kidneys] and tends to relax you from the stress of depression without chemically coshing you.  it may make you more regular, but, as a depressive youll no doubt enjoy the extra exercise.

  4. The psychology I had in my country advice me to take the Linden Tea two times a day I notice it help me .It made me feel in calm and very relaxed. You can try it if you want.

  5. pot?

  6. First, in response to another answer... don't assume you must jump on the anti-depressant band wagon if you're feeling depressed. We, as a world, are WAY over-medicated! So I think it's super awesome that you're looking for a natural way to find a remedy. First off... St John's Wort is good. So is anything for relaxation like Chamomile, Lavender and Valerian Root. Also, in terms of natural remedies, exercise is one of the best fast fixes to depression. If you are having any kinds of hopeless, self-harm kind of thoughts, I highly recommend you skip all of the above and see a Dr. ASAP though. Some things herbs and nature just can't fix.

  7. Comfrey, sage, peppermint. I have made tea of all three, one at a time, on different occasions and I don't know if they directly impacted my depression, but they surely raised my mood back up into the bearable range again.. They also calmed me right down. I could enjoy the evening in peace.

  8. St Johns Wort is good - but it is very important not to take it if you are taking prescribed anti-depressants too - the results are really horrible.

Take it in pill format, so that you are getting a measurable dose.

  9. The main herb that is good for depression is GANJA.

  10. The truth is none that are as reliable as prescribed meds.  The problem with natural remedies is that they cannot tell how much active ingredient is in a plant, so it makes dosages very difficult to work out.

I asked my psychiatrist about this a few years ago when there was a lot of hype about EPA being a natural cure for depression on the back of a book, and she basically advised me not to bother with those types of remedies, as they are too variable and cannot be guaranteed to offer stability over any length of time.

This was obviously her opinion on it and I know others may disagree, but she had always been very helpful so I took her advice.

If you are interested in EPA therapy I recommend the book "the natural way to beat depression" by Dr Basant K.Puri and Hilary Bond (ISBN 0-340-82496-4), this book was what made me start considering it and its useful info to help you make a choice if you do decide to try the natural route.

Before you try any alternative medications, if you are currently receiving treatment I urge you to speak to your treatment provider, not only because some natural and conventional remedies can cause problems when mixed, but because it will be important to monitor you during and after a change in meds to make sure they are working OK for you, be they natural or otherwise.

  11. If the depression is caused by a physiological problem such as a chemical imbalance (read: psychological disorder treatable by pharmaceuticals) then St. John's Wort probably won't help. It's worth a try though. If it doesn't work, well at least you tried.

  12. cammomil

  13. ------ P O T ------

  14. st johns wort

  15. St. John's Wort - Natural, wholesome, inexpensive and available over the counter, Hypericum perforatum seemed to be the dream remedy for depression. The herbal remedy had fewer side effects and as the researchers concluded, it showed promise for the long-term treatment of moderate depression.

SAMe - S-adenosylmethionine (SAM-E) is an amino acid that is used in the treatment of depression. SAMe is an essential amino acid required to maintain healthy neurotransmitter processes in the brain. People suffering from depression often have deficient quantities of certain brain chemicals. SAMe works fast to increase these levels and improve these deficient factors with little or no side effects.

5HTP - 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid that is the intermediate step between tryptophan and the important brain chemical serotonin, a strong neurotransmitter in the brain. It specifically targets symptoms caused by low seratonin levels such as feeling down, changes in sleep patterns, etc. 5HTP has also been successful as a weight loss aid by suppressing the appetite.

Ginkgo Biloba - Ginkgo is found to be useful in relieving depression, especially in the elderly who suffer reduced blood flow to the brain, according to results form clinical trials. It is a powerful antidepressant and antioxidant that increases blood flow to the brain and other parts of the body. This improved blood circulation increases memory, promotes cardiovascular health and alleviates symptoms of Alzheimer's patients.

Siberian Ginseng -Siberian ginseng improves the balance of important neurotransmitters (including serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine) in the brain. Its various varieties are referred to as an adaptogen, a substance that assists body in adapting to external physical stresses. Ginseng is believed to stimulate the immune system, enhance abstract thinking and improve aerobic capacity. Ginseng may also benefit people with diabetes by regulating blood sugar levels.

    Hope this helps.

  16. Some people swear by St. John's Wort but when I tried it I had horrible side effects.... even thought it claims there are none! I found SAMe to be very helpful. It isn't an herb but it is a naturally occurring hormone in our bodies. I took 200mg twice a day and it worked wonders!! I felt wonderful with no side effects. Google it, get some info. You can buy it at the drugstore. Also, sunshine helps alot!! Get at least 10 minutes of sun on your face everyday =o)

    Good luck!!

  17. hmmm,,,, marijuana? or cannabis?,,, isn't recommended for depression,,,,

cannabis does not actually alleviate mental illness,,, it makes it worse. there is evidence that cannabis use causes psychosis and the mere breathing in of cannabis smoke is enough to affect the passive smoker who can experience a “high” from the smoke,,

traces of cannabis can be found in body fluids as a result of passive cannabis smoking however little is known about the short or long term effects of passive cannabis smoking,,

but,,, marijuana helps relieve neuropathic pain in people depressive illness with HIV,,,,
