Which courses should I take (and try to do exceptionally in) in order to look like a promising Psychology student for colleges? I'm starting my Sophomore year in less than 3 weeks and I'd like to know what sort of stuff should I look into?

There's a Psych class already for juniors, and a sociology class, but besides that, what else should I look into? Anything scientific, mathematical?

  1. Look at the curriculum of the college that appeals to you most and decide from there.  I found great information if you type in "curriculum for psychology majors" in google.  Look at what will be required for college and then decide which courses in High School curriculum would be best suited.  I see that there is a lot of requirements needed, so choosing the highest classes would be best and then buckle down and studying hard.  For example when I was in High School you could start in "Life Science" or "Biology"....Biology had more of the "smart students" and life science contained the students who didn't apply themselves appropriately.  Choose the higher classes and struggle a little bit, but you still have to make the grades for college acceptance so be sure that you get a tutor or person helpful to getting you through the classes if needed.

  2. AP english and of course psych

  3. High School Preparation

In addition to taking introductory psychology courses at your high school, students should also prepare themselves by having a strong background in science, math, English, and computer courses. Spending your time volunteering at a local hospital or mental health clinic is also a great opportunity to gain practical experience in the field. There is also a wealth of reading material available to those who have an interest in psychology, from scholarly journals, to newspapers and magazines.

    Good luck!

  4. Yes there is. Take biology because some biological factors influence personality and psychological problems. Also, algebra because in a psych program you will have to take advanced statistics and algebra is a good foundation. Then perhaps religion or philosophy. Also english, and if you take a language they usually recommend German or Spanish.
