What hip problems do dauchaunds experience? Ours is not a mini and he is a jumper (up and down for food).?

He's having a very difficult climbing the stairs and is hesitant to put any weight on it.

  1. You need to be worried about his back.  If he has a displaced vertebrae it can go bad very quickly.  DO NOT let him jump (in fact keep as quiet as possible) and take him to vet as soon as possible.


  2. you don't mention how old he is or how long this has been going on, but he really needs to get in to a vet for a check ASAP.

    doxies are prone to things like degenerative disc disease in the spine, herniated discs, cushing's disease (which can cause muscle weakness esp in the hind end), spondylosis of the spine, etc.

    only a vet can tell why your doxie is having problems with the stairs or putting weight on his hips. bone or joint problems can be quite painful if left untreated so for his sake, get him on for some x-rays soon. they can determine the cause of his problems and treat accordingly.
