I just started playing ice hoceky again after about 8 years off the ice. I played in a pick up game a few weeks ago and I think I was the only one with a wooden stick. Do people still use sherwoods or Montréal wooden sticks? Also, what is a good online vendor?

  1. Ok, NHL players use composite sticks because they either get discounts on them or they get them for free through sponsorship, etc.

It's okay to use a wooden stick, the only real difference is the material used to make them and the weight. In my opinion, wooden sticks are better because I get more of a feel with them. I have owned sticks from the Vapor x*x to Synergys to Vectors. I personally think that people use composite sticks because it looks cool or the pros use it, assuming that it will make them better. It's not the gear that makes the player. Since you are playing pick-up games, why bother buying a $150-$200 stick if you are only going to use it about once or twice every other week.

Plus, there are a few wooden sticks that look like composite sticks.

A majority of players use the Synergy ST/SL/S17/350/300/SE, Bauer Vapor XX/x*x/XXXX, Bauer One 90/70/50, RBK (Reebok) Sickick/O-Stick, Vector 6.0/8.0/10.0, Warrior MacDaddy/Royale, and Easton Stealth hockey sticks.

    Hope this helps.

  2. There are a couple of people like Jason Spezza that still use wooden sticks, but the majority of the players use carbon fiber composite sticks.

  3. there are about like 12 ppl in the NHL that use wooden sticks

now alot of pros use Warriors, Easton SLs, easton synergy elites, and some bauer Vapor XXXX
