What homeschool material works best for children with ADD and reading difficulties?

My daughter, age 9, struggles in traditional school, but catches on well to things she sees in a movie. I would be very interested in knowing about 1-3 grade learning DVD curriculm. She also likes p*****n music, so I think learning by music (not preschool level) would help. She has been retained and we have a lot of catching up to do. I also would like to network with other moms in the same situation (children with learning disabilities.) I don't know if I'm ready to homeschool, but I feel like I owe it to my daughter to try my best. Thanks!

  1. Kids with difficult reading at the proscribed age get labelled at school because everything is built around reading and writing but in a HS environment where they can get information in other ways they can learn just fine. It's not unusual for a HS child not to be reading until 10 or 11, but when they finally do there's no disadvantage.

  2. You would want to check in to SOS. (Switched on Schoolhouse.) It is a interactive dvd program provided by Alpha omega. It is all done on computer. No books. Pull her out of public and do it yourself. At least until she gets to middle school. By then, she will do some catching up and hopefully suceed. I homeschooled my add son. It was the best thing for him. I only did it a couple of years but it did help.

  3. I found these two to be really helpful for reading.

Keep in mind there is no perfect program. Sometimes you have mix and match.Getting in a group is real good. We are in one through our public school district.

Check your area because they don't cost and you have a credentialed teacher there to help you. Here in orange county CA. we have CHEP(community home school program) But their are many springing up as the educators are seeing the value in it.  Sing spell is a board game with tapes and readers, Hooked on Phonics is a computer program with readers.Good Luck, Its hard work but worth it. My two sons are now in College. .Im glad I did it.
