  1. Are you asking how to homeschool a second grader? We don't know you or your child, so we can't say what will suit you. My advice is to spend a few hours on google. Find a style of philosophy to follow that matches your education goals. Most people agree that they want their kids to have a well rounded education, but most do not agree what that should include! Then read curriculum reviews. Then come back and ask us specific questions.

  2. Check the Internet, but none are cheap.

We have programs here at the y and other nature programs for home schooled children.

I myself have checked into several for a grandchild, but am afraid I am not disciplined enough to do a good job.

  3. the best homeschool to go to for an (n)th grader is home. The very meaning of the term "homeschool" implies the schooling of one's child by oneself in one's home. It does not mean go to the neighbor's house and have them schooled there. That would then be coined "neighborschool".

Perhaps you are looking for a bigger option, one that has many homeschooled children. In this case, you want to try something called the "public school system". The public school system is perfect for multiple homeschooled children, with overcrowed classrooms, old, our of date textbooks and teachers who care more about their salary than the children themselves. Public Schools are prone to strikes for this reason.

    Good luck in your decision.

Those are some of my favorite products from timberdoodle.  I didn't like their choices for History. You can get Uncle Josh's Map Book for Geography and Maps.  I liked to use that while reading Missionary stories and the Millers to map the areas of the world.  I love the Miller series-- Wisdom, Prudence, Missionary.

Abeka has great history up to the 3rd grade and they also have great Health/Manners books up to 3rd grade.

For spelling nothing beats the Sequential Spelling AVCO series. You can get those almost anywhere.

  5. you dont GO to school to homeschool..

  6. A second grader has three main things to learn:

    Reading, Math and Writing.

Check out www.robinsoncurriculum.com and find out about a great self-teaching program.  We have used it for ten+ years.

When a child can read very well and has the basic math facts memorized he/she is ready for Saxon math 54 and reading the best books that are available.   Handwriting skills are important and the child should be practicing penmanship and writing one page essays about anything that is interesting to them.

Reading well just takes practice.  A good start is though a phonics program.  And then just plain practice.  Reading from fun and adventurous books will instill a love of reading into the heart and mind of the child.  They should read from the best available books for at least 2 hours every day.

  7. It doesn't matter... they all give a substandard education.
