I'm home schooling in Jacksonville, FL. Does anyone know of a place that I can take some art classes? Like, painting, drawing and that sort of thing.

Thank you for you help.

GOD BLESS

  1. I am a professional artist (illustrator and portrait painter) as well as a homeschool mom; though I don't have much time these days for the arts side of things, LOL. If you are serious about getting really good at art, I would suggest the artist's forum called Wet Canvas. It is THE busiest online art's website on the net. There are channels (separate forums) for subjects (figure, animals, landscape, portraits, etc), mediums (watercolor, pencil, digital, etc), and even channels for things such as glasswork. You have begining artists all the way up to practicing professionals who post there. It is designed to handle graphics, so it is easy to upload an image of what you are working on to show others and ask for advice. It is s friendly place and one of the easiest ways to get real professionals to give you a hand, access great tutorials, participate in the monthly art club challenges, and more - all for free.

Here are a few of my threads to give you a place to begin in getting to know Wet Canvas:

    Digital Portraiture:

Don't forget that there is usually more than one page, so when you get to the bottom, look for the links to additional pages. Once you see my threads, next look for the jump links (drop down menu) that will let you see all the many channels at Wet Canvas. Click on a few and go exploring. Before you know it, you will be posting too.

I am planning on teaching a digital painting class over the summer for free through VHSG. If you think you would like to learn to paint using digital tools in an online classroom with a live teacher, let me know and I will add you to the list of people to keep in the news loop.

  2. As a homeschooling dad, who took some art in college, I really like Drawspace. Lots of lessons, Free!

  3. I would suggest a book called Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. It is a great book for people who think they do not have artistic talent to thrive.

The author also holds courses in various cities (I forget her name), but she travels around the country.

New Age shops tend to know of her whereabouts.

  4. doodle(ing) . painting picture . buy some clay and sculpt.
