  1. Why not using the internet? Though online ads shouldn't be the only thing you use they can be very helpful in finding horses that you would like to go visit and ride to see if you like them.

If you really can't use the internet, check your newspaper to see if any horses are for sale, look at all the local barns in your area, and ask around the horse community to see if anyone has one for sale. Good luck and I hope you find a great horse!

  2. there isn't anything wrong with using the internet. you could try the internet to find Morgan sale barns in your area, or you could also try going to Morgan shows, or your local tack shop, because a lot of times, they have ads there for horses.

  3. If your instructor doesn't want you to use the internet, ask her if she knows of any good Morgans for sale, or if she knows of any good Morgan farms.

  4. I don't bother with non gaited horses and do not like the singlefoot over the rough ground here so morgans are out for me (even the gaited singlefooting ones).  I like Fox trotters.  But what you want and need depends on what you want to do and what you like.  Your instructor should not pressure you into getting one particular breed.  It is too big of an investment for you so you need to choose.

I too would avoid on-line if I could (even though I sometimes sell on line) It is better to buy from a small breeder that has good stock and takes care of them.

  5. why not using the internet as long as you see and check out the horse i dont see the  problem and if not try looking in pony mags most of them have for sale pages with lots of breeds i'm sure youll find some hose-pony you like

  6. So you are getting a breed of horse just because that is what your instructor told you to do?

Because that is what everyone else has there so that is what you have to have?

I've seen some barns like that.  They would snub anyone that had anything other than an OTTB and another would snub you if you didn't rescue a horse...and yet another wouldn't give you the time of day if you had a AQHA or rode western.

What about what YOU want?  Why do you have to have a show horse?  Are you showing?  Do you like to show Morgans?  How will you show if you will show?

The instructor is pushing Morgan as that is her preference and what she shows, most likely.  Maybe only Morgans are allowed at that barn...I dunno.

I am assuming she doesn't want an internet horse because she can't be there to try it out herself and get a hands on  (?)

Most show horses are advertised on the internet.  Get a Morgan magazine and look in the classifieds in the back.  Go to Morgan shows and they have 'for sale' signs up on the stalls if one is available.

I seriously doubt a show horse will be advertised on Craigslist but ya never know.

Just thought of something...maybe your instructor actually knows someone selling and hasn't told you yet.  Just wanted to do the "not on the internet" first then say "Hey, I found one for you" later. Kind of a cheap thing to do to a kid but it happens.

sorry, just irritated when instructors 'push' a particular breed on a child that is relying on that adults truthfulness and expertise

I'm gonna back away from the computer now! haha

Not my day for answering questions.

    ***EDIT***

THANK YOU HUDSON!  I thought it was just me (her being tricked into a horse at that barn or from 'someone they know' )

  7. Perhaps you should get your parents involved with this assignment..as I'm sure you will require their assistance in writing the checks.  And if your "instructor/trainer" wants you to invest in a Morgan SHOW horse..and they are a Morgan"SHOW" barn, I would hope that she would be familiar with the network associated with that breed.  Why would she just tell you and not consult with your parents to let them know she thinks you are ready to have a show horse. I DO NOT think you are ready to venture into this on your own.  GET YOUR PARENTS INVOLVED!!

"Show" horses are not cheap and showing horses is not cheap either...especially within a show barn.  And to travel to go and try horses is very expensive too.  There are a couple of Morgans where I ride for sale...they have competed and won at the Grand Nationals...just so you have an idea of pricing..one is $60,000....if interested, let me know!!  He rides and drives and is from the HVK family of Morgans.

    ***********************EDIT***********...

ok..I've been thinking about this...and even went as far as looking on the internet to Majic Stables.(in OK..and specialize in Morgans)..they seem to be a very legitimate facility and was wondering.....maybe she told you to not look on the internet because...maybe there is a horse that you might like right there in their barn...and it was a "trick assignment"????  Do you have a favorite that you ride there or wish you could ride, or that you want to be yours?  Maybe your horse is right there looking at you and you looking at it and you don't even know it..maybe they want to see if you "pick" that particular horse?  I don't know...just thinking it could be a surprise before your very eyes???!!!

Just a thought.....yup!! definitely too much time on my hands today!!

  8. Well, I would check at local tack shops. Often, there are ads of horses for sale, boarding stable ect. Also, though I know you would prefer a morgan, why not try different  breeds? There are lots of horses out there, and I'm afraid that if you narrow your search down to a specific breed, it will take longer to find the perfect horse for you. Check at local stables, and aske around if people have any horses for sale. You can always go and ride the horse a couple of time to decide if you like it or not.

    The best of luck!
