A friend of mine just moved to california and is looking for a place to stay but has no where to go. Jobs won't hire him and is soon to be left out in the streets! I heard there are hotels that will either let veterans stay for free or the price is really cheap, but so far i don't have anything. Please help!

  1. I'm not familiar with the community services available in California, as I'm in Australia.  However, here we have community services that are able to assist with accommodation options for those people that are either homeless, or in danger of becoming homeless.

They are usually managed by social workers through either a charity or community health centre.

In the case of your friend, if he is a veteran of military background then he may also be able to access these, and more, services through a veterans affairs service.

It sounds as though he is really struggling, but trying to get his life back on track, so it may be worth doing the groundwork for him and presenting him with the results, rather than just telling him what he needs to do.

I know that here the Vietnam vets are a group that have major issues related to their involvement in that war and the response that they got when they returned.  Unfortunately the scars are deep for these people and much damage has been done to them and their sense of self worth.

It sounds like you are a good friend to him.

  2. if your looking for hotels for a cheaper place to stay...  youd be better off trying one of the extended stay types... such a studio 6, or extended stay america...   but if  its simply a matter of having a roof and a place to clean up, one might try picking up a local paper and searching for people who rent rooms by the week... or by the month...

and i stay in houston...  i dont know what the economy is like where you are at...  but there are jobs out there.. tell him to hold his chin up... even if its flipping burgers for a little while.. its better than no income at all.... good luck, and god bless...

  3. Search here and then ask the cheapest ones listed if they have such deals:

There may also be special homeless shelters for vets but you need to google for those or try to contact a veteran's assocation.
