We are planning a trip there next May (2009) and want something that is nice and centrally located to all of the main attractions.

If you want something different, try the Hutong Inn. You can find it online. The hutongs are the traditional Chinese single storey homes, although this inn has 2 or 3 floors. I stayed on the 2nd floor.

The people are very friendly and welcoming and it is fairly central being close to the Forbidden City, Beihai Park etc. Prices are reasonable. Not suitable if you are looking for 5 star hotel service.
