I have been to Munich many times and have stayed at a small hotel in central Munich near the trains station called Hotel Monaco. Not a big fancy hotel but friendly and clean.The prices were ok and it was very close to the main train station and subway stops. http://www.hotel-monaco.de/english.html

Give them a try, I did blindly on my first trip and enjoyed the stay.

Try www.tripadvisor.com to find a hotel that fits your budget.  I'd recommend the Creativ Elephant Hotel.  Good location, reasonable price, very nice.

There are lots of good hotels in (correct spelling München or Muenchen) Miunchin, depending what you can afford.
