What hotels do you recommend in Milan, Italy, I would prefer one near the central station?

I use the venere.com site for hotels here in Italy and sometimes stay near the station in Milan when I've got to catch an early morning flight from one of the airports: http://en.venere.com/hotels_milan/. If you select the "Find hotels on map", you can narrow down the search to a specific area in the city and then sort by price, reating or other criteria. The Stazione Centrale Est & Stazione Centrale Ovest areas are close by the station. Prices vary quite a bit depending on what's going on. I've stayed at the Hotel Mini Aosta sometimes at a very reasonable price. It's very close to the station, right now it's charging about twice what I paid the last time I was there. One that I like a lot is the hotel Michelangelo, it's more upscale and just across a parking area from the station. It can be very expensive though.

One of the least expensive places near the station with a very good rating from many previous guests is: Hotel Charly http://en.venere.com/hotels_milan/centra... I haven't stayed in this one, but would certainly consider it in the future.

On our last trip to Milano we stayed at the Hotel Madison.  It's on the west side of the train station, opposite side where the taxi stands are, so you can really walk it.  

We had an exceptional rate of 80 Euros and were amazed at the quality of the hotel.  There was a great pizza place on the train station end of the street.  There is also a Internet Cafe.  There was a nice parish church across the street from the hotel that we went to.  

It was also nice that the train station, on our side, had a little supermarket where we could buy water, snacks, etc.
