  1. In my case it was 12 hour shifts. Three on four off, four on three off. Then there is court. It always seems to fall on days off. Of course that was at time and a half. Holidays are time and a half or in some places double time. Plan or working them until you have tons of seniority.

  2. A choice between twelve hours three days a week, or ten hours five days a week.

  3. 10 hr days, plenty of overtime if you want it. court time is overtime. average approx 40-45 hrs a week.

  4. There are no "average hours".

On my old shift, I worked 12 hours (6:00 PM - 6:00 AM)

My days on and off worked as such:

    Week 1: ON = Mon. & Tue. / OFF = Wed. & Thu. / ON = Fri, Sat. & Sun.

    Week 2: OFF = Mon. & Tue. / ON = Wed. & Thu. / OFF = Fri, Sat. & Sun.

This continued by alternating Week 1 and Week 2 over and over (giving my shift 3 days off every other weekend).

  5. The area I live in, it is standard for 4 10 hour shifts with 3 days off.  Shifts rotate every three months.  You can request to keep your shift, however you are required to change shifts at least once a year so there is no favoritism complaints, etc.

As mentioned in an earlier post, this area also has lower ranking officers working holidays at overtime pay.

  6. We work 10 hour shifts, 4 days a week.

  7. 8 hour shifts five days a week. Anything after that is overtime. Holidays is time and a half.
