I am considering staying in Newark instead of the city for a mid-week trip. My decision is hinged onto whether or not I can get back to the airport hotel at late night.

  1. The Newark Airtrain is a monorail that runs to and from the different terminals, parking lots, and the train station there.  There is no cost.

To get from the city to Newark Airport, you're going to have to take either New Jersey Transit or Amtrak.  They stop running about 1:00-2:00 in the morning.  Then you have to take the Airtrain to the station where the airport shuttles are allowed to pick up from.  Plus NJ Transit and Amtrak charge a $10 surcharge to board or depart a train at the airport station.

If you miss that last train, it costs about $50 for a cab (from experience).

  2. My friend, the Newark Airtrain runs around the clock. You'll be able to a train at any time. If you taking NJ Transit, however, the last train to leave Penn Station departures a about 1:30am.

    Good luck

  3. The Newark AirTrain runs 24/7.

It runs every three minutes from 5:00 am to midnight and every fifteen minutes thereafter until 5:00 am.
