  1. for catfish, you can use hot dogs soaked in garlic. What I used to do was cut a hot dog in 2 inch pieces and soak them a mixture of red Kool-Aid and garlic powder. I also used Shrimp left in the sun for a day, bread balls with crushed dog or cat food mixed in. I found the canned foods work best. You can even use marshmallows and jello mixed with canned cat food or sardines.

For bass, you have to figure out what mimics the natural forage. I've used shoe strings to mimic worms and snakes because they way they flow in the water. I've cut down a spoon and drilled a few holes to make a shad presentation. I used a wine cork to make a top water chugger. I used my wife's earrings to make a spinner bait ( don't tell her that, she's still wondering about those earrings.) You can use just about anything, even a tree limb if you take the time to make it look like a bait. Nail polish to paint it up , add a few hooks and you're good to go. Whatever you use, you have to make it look like something or smell good to the fish.~good luck catchin'.

  2. catfish anything you can keep on a hook that smells bad...

largemouth??  got me...your son's pet goldfish???

  3. Catfish will hit almost anything that they can eat.  It needs to stay on the hook and the nastier it smells the better it will attract the fish.  I really like Chicken liver.  You can use some old panty hose and a rubber band to keep it on a treble hook.  But that gets to be a hassle.  Eventually you will develop your own technique to hook it and cast it with out losing it.  I have also used chicken breast  that is a bit spoiled or maybe soaked in garlic, cloves, or something else that is very pungent.  If you catch a small fish, you can gut him and hook him for bait as well.

Bass - If you put the hook in the right place they might hit that chicken liver.  But for natural bait I like a large shiner or shad. Or a big wiggly worm.  All depends on your location, weather, water temp, and a 100 other things.

Catch a big one.  Good luck
